Book Review- Antifragile
The writer is my alias. The crux of the book i really felt
- I understood businessman as people having zero academic knowledge but great courage and people intelligence. As i runt through the academic circle; i realize that academic people can never become a businesman, because they think too much. And as Taleb says, We live in a world which we can never understand. Hence, one needs to be anti fragile.
- To suceed in business, you do not need to follow a businessplan. But you have to be “anti fragile”. Meaning, building a business slowly , doing lot of stuff..and see where you can suceed. Just like life, so in business planning will not take you anywhere…it is bound to fail. So just do stuff.
- Next he talked about convexity, or getting upshot in life. I realize doing regular job wont make you a millionaire. But in business, though you can get lossess initially but then there is an upshot, one good deal and you be millionaire.
- The next thing, he talks about having a big library; I have a really bad academic record, but then i am a book alcholic. I only read things which i do not have any idea about. It is all to do with gaining understanding of the world, which i do not know.
- Life is all about being futuristic and taking your chances. I hate people who says, “I told you so”. I told you so, is such a bad thing to tell anyone. because retrospectively, you can say anything. The past is fluid, you can cherry pick events to suit your narrative; tell them to predict future or even bet. And then you are going to see one’s intellectual strength.
I am still reading the book, getting to digest it.
Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani film review
Beautifully directed, and well crafted story…well, in all, YJHD is a feel good movie.
It is just as equal to Wake Up Sid, with the protagonist not confused ; but doubly committed to do what he knows, is his life. and doing so give up family members, friends and Deepika Padukone ( He even did it once in his real life)
The movie just says, how long you can go to chase your dream. This pluck a chord in my real life; where i found few of my friends giving up good hi flying jobs in US, just to settle down in there home town ; just to be with family. or One of my friend giving up investment banking , just to live in Delhi doing consulting jobs.
Well, this is what i have to say; it is not good to be Deewani during Jawaani or be more passionate about something. Learn to learn that there is more juice in life, where you intend to go.
Understanding porter five forces
Just came to understand Porter Five forces, to ascertain what forces make or break a business. Given below are five forces, and my personal experience with them
Porter Five forces :-
- Threat of New Entrant
- Example of Indian E-commerce; where making an E-commerce website was very easy. And hence, the Industry was flooded with lot of players; and market did not grow that much. At the end, things got fizzled.
- And I think, Flipkart did the best, by doing too much of marketing; to create a loyal customer base. Which in itself created a barrier of entry for new players. I think, brand is a big threat to Entry.
- Threat of substitute product/services
- It was same with E-commerce, when the customer is disloyal; it is easy for them to switch site. With COD, or cash on delivery; Customer became the king. So too much threat to the new player.
- Bargaining power of customer
- If you have few customers, then one will need to bargain.
- As happened if you are a lubricant supplier to only one industry in your area. Then the industry will call the shots.
- Bargaining power of suppliers
- Oh, it shows in the OECD who controls the world petroleum.
- The same with Samsung, who makes chip used in smart phone. It has the supplier power in the smart phone industry.
- Or, you can take CIL or Coal Indial Limited ; who has the supplier power of supplying coal to Indian Thermal Power Plants. For the past two years, the losses by Private Thermal Power Plant is because of CIL.
- Sometimes, while looking at the business, try to find out in the value chain; what kind of small supplies that can be controlled.
- Intensity of Competitive rivalry
- Always seen in the Airlines industry, lot of blood bath.
- Also seen in industry where barriers to entry is low.
Understanding of them is good, as it is good during negotiations; especially in the Business.
Re reading and Re visiting
Just rereading old book.
I thought, man is known by the number of books he has read. But realized, man is known by the number of books he has chewed.
A deeper read is more beautiful and enhance one’s understanding; then more and shallow read.

What needs to be done ? Why direction is all that important in life
In Bible it is written, without vision, everything will perish. And i have to put the point that it is the vision which is important. But then Vision is so flexible, so abstract that it make me think twice.
